Extras: The Pitfalls of Comics Anatomy

The infamous Catwoman cover.

Anonymous satire

Parody by the fabulous Kate Beaton.

Over on the Facebook page, we've been having sort of an impromptu link share showing one of comics most well known features: horribly drawn anatomy.  While it is truly sad that talented artists often stoop to reinforcing bizarre body image icons, well, if you can't cry, you might as well laugh.  Warning: Not all links are safe for work.

First off is a blog chronicling the many offenses of bizarre and broken comics in anatomy:

In addition to collecting these atrocities, members often attempt to repair the drawings in a process known as "red-lining":

The blog also drew my attention to this Kickstarter campaign

A very, um, good?  Good example.

Here's a very good pic featuring another infamously bad pose from the pages of Spider-Man:

Many others have tried, with, shall we say, not as impressive results:

Finally one of my very favorites, the 40 Worst Rob Liefeld drawings.  Rob Liefeld, for those not in the know, is widely accepted as the very worst professional comic artist alive.  Professional meaning that he was also the biggest, most successful artist of the 90's who still manages to get high profile gigs to this day.

Liefeld, by the way, is the creator of Deadpool, one of Marvel's most popular/successful characters today.  Although it warrants noting that he only became popular (or readable) after the character was taken over by another writer.

This guy.

P.S.- Also this.  I don't even know.
