Questions: Daytripper

Like, whoa, that was deep, right?  Head on in to the questions and we'll begin sifting through the layers of twin Brazilians Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon's quiet rumination on death, Daytripper.

1)The use of a multiverse is a trope usually reserved for superhero comics.  Do you believe that is what we are seeing in Daytripper, or are we merely viewing various possible outcomes?

2) Throughout the book, certain occurrences and people in Bras' life are concrete, even if the time or manner of his death are not.  Using these "fixed points", they build a sort of mythology.  How do you feel this method affected the feel and story overall?

3) Which one of these fixed points/characters did you find most interesting?  Why?

4) Do you think Bras' "miraculous" birth has any deeper symbolic meaning other than lending to his personal mythology?

5) Which time period in Bras' life did you enjoy reading about the most?  Why do you think his life was told out of order?

6) In the bonus pages, artist Fabio Moon explains that he designed the aesthetic of the book based on the goal of telling a story made up of "quiet moments".  This hearkens back to a conversation between Bras and his father, who tells him that life is built from moments whose significance you only realize in retrospect.  How well do you think the story conveyed this idea?

7) Which death did you like the most?  Which did you like the least?  Why?

8) What is your opinion of the dream chapter?  What was its purpose?

9) Was the last death any more "real" than the preceding ones?

10) The two biggest themes in the book are acceptance of death and the relationship between fathers and sons. At the end of the book, when Bras reads his father's letter, the two themes finally connect in a way that gives the story concrete meaning.  What did you think of the ending?

BONUS) Using the logic of the book, any person can be mythologized using the basic facts that make up their life.  What are some things that have happened to you that contribute to your own mythology?
